Porsche Motorsport

[Creative Director, Copywriter]

For Porsche Rennsport Reunion VI, Porsche Motorsport retained RACER Studio to create a 16-page native content feature looking back on the event that coincided with the Stuttgart brand’s 70th anniversary. The feature revolved around the idea of ‘the soul of Porsche.’ Using the quotes from several key figures of Porsche’s racing history and the photography of Camden Thrasher, I directed the layout and wrote the supporting text.

When legions of Porsche fans and drivers flocked over four days to California’s WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca for Rennsport Reunion VI, they came to see, and to drive, many of the most iconic and illustrious Porsches gathered in one place.

Most notable among the notables were 356 No. 1 and, at the other end of the spectrum, the 919 Hybrid Evo, wrapping up its 919 Tribute Tour. Between the two, there were racecars from every era and discipline that Porsche has competed in over the course of 70 years.

Yet Rennsport, for all its assemblage of magnificent machines, is more than anything an affirmation of Porsche’s commitment to motorsport in a way that’s hard for any other marque to match. In affirming this commitment, we get to the sine qua non that connects each successive generation of Porsche racecar and driver – soul, that wholly undefinable, yet precisely felt set of emotions we feel at the sight of a Martini Racing 917, or the sound of an air-cooled flat-six, or when we find ourselves in the presence of a legend such as Bell, Haywood or Ickx.

So it’s to these drivers, and their illustrious colleagues, that we turn for their take on the Soul of Porsche at Rennsport Reunion VI.

The Porsche Family

When speaking of Porsche, it’s common to cite race wins or technology. Yet across the spectrum of people involved directly or indirectly with Porsche, “family” is what’s mentioned most. From team members, to employees, to owners and fans, Rennsport Reunion is more than an impressive gathering of racecars,

it’s well and truly a family reunion too.

For the Soul Enjoyment of It

There is no end to where soul can go. The new 935 – revealed at Rennsport Reunion VI – is a technological tour de force that echoes the original 935/78. Free from sporting and technical regulations, the latest 935 is a thoroughly modern track car conceived simply to be enjoyed. Only 77 examples will be built, but it touches every Porsche enthusiast with a profound sense of pride and wonder because soul never fades – it is only reimagined to go further and faster.
